CM93 v2 charts are generated with commercial software and stored in XML files. They can be converted to other formats with some patience, downloading, experimenting, and of course, Google searches. In practice, i'd avoid CM93 V2 until you have at least a few years of experience in using CPN. There are tons of different chart formats, and no chart conversion/converter software is perfect. In the opinion of some mariners, these are the top 5 chart conversion programs and have been chosen for their usability and their efficiency, there are obviously many others out there as well: Chartconverter: The leading chart converter softare. Works well, but is a bit slow when converting from CM93 V2 and it also has some stability problems. We know for a fact that it doesn't work with some charts (e.g. CJ97/CJ98, v1) on some builds of Chartconverter. Yamax: Another chartconverter. Has close to Chartconverter's features, but is simpler and more stable. WPlotconverter: It's another chart converter using the same software (yamax) for large conversions. Erskine: Highly experimental conversion software from England. Very fast, very complete, and very light. Will not work with CPN v. >= 2015.03. DPX Converter: Yet another chart converter using the same software (yamax).
Only one thing we miss about AIS: there are dedicated copies of all AIS messages summed or summarized on the CM93 screen automatically. It happens when you activate AIS, and even if you keep it off. It's not a very big deal as it's mainly a visual aid. But sometimes we rely on it for marine traffic, and it would be nice if it could be turned off. d2c66b5586
